How we teach it
Weekly lists get forgotten by Monday. We teach the pattern a group of words shares, then practise it until a child can apply it to words they have never seen. Exceptions are taught separately and honestly — English has plenty, and pretending otherwise confuses children.
We assess every child before we place them, so they start in the right place.
