Skill Development

Drawing

Looking carefully, then putting it on paper

Observation, proportion, shading and colour — drawing taught as a skill that can be learned, not a talent a child either has or does not.

What your child learns

  1. Seeing shapes inside real objects
  2. Proportion, perspective and composition
  3. Shading, light and shadow
  4. Colour with pencils, crayons and paint

How we teach it

Children who say they cannot draw are usually drawing what they know rather than what they see. Every session begins with looking — measuring with a pencil, finding basic shapes — before any mark is made. Technique is introduced gradually so a child’s own style is never overwritten.

We assess every child before we place them, so they start in the right place.

What changes

  • Draws from observation, not memory
  • Finishes a piece rather than abandoning it
  • Talks about their work with confidence

Every child progresses at their own pace. We track it and tell you honestly how it is going.
